Night Out event in Seattle

Wren and I got a gig in Seattle recently ("Night Out" an event to build community to help prevent crime in the city) through our good friend Sam Williams. The event took place in the center of three places: a church, a retirement home, and a men's half-way house-type place. Wren and I had a great time, and from the organizers feedback, everyone else did too. Here's some pictures from the event... we did a bit of teaching as well as roaming and performing. This guy was super into the ropes, it was awesome!

 Wren and I went to Mad Skills in Vancouver this weekend... well, we didn't actually participate in the workshops because they were too expensive, but we did do some juggling in a park, wander the streets, and then see the big Mad Skills show that night. Here's some of the fun things we found out...

The weekend included good times like this!

Being two cheapies can sometimes maybe be a drag, but by not going to the event, we found some rather interesting, productive, and fun things to do.

Local Foods Dinner Theater

Wren and I were invited to perform at the Bellingham Coop, along with a few other circus folks, for a Local Foods Dinner Theater Show. We would be accompanied by a local accordion player, Josh, in the dining area of the coop. I was asked to perform the chair dance, and boy, is that a tough act to perform for a small, close-up group of people not knowing what they've gotten theselves into. But other than the chair dance, Wren and I performed an updated "improvised" version of our rope act,

 and our slowly-growing high-five club-juggling act. It was petty fun. Clay, Andrea, and Jason Quick were the other performers, and they had some fun acts as well...like a swing dance coffee bit, and a pie making table bit. Here is a photo of us at the end of the night.

 What a great thing to be advertising, local foods, local music, and local nuts! Ha! That's us!

Meals on Wheels Benefit

Wren, Justincredible, and I were invited to put on a short show for the Meals on Wheels Benefit and Community Trivia night at the Bellingham Senior Activities Center. "March for Meals" was the name, and fun was the game.

Justin did his delightful hat routine,

Wren did his explanatory three-club juggling act, Wren and I did our rope act,

and the three of us did our "Frank Wiley Trio" juggling act.

Part of the evenings event was a dessert dash! And how well you did in the trivia rounds placed you in the order in which you were released to run for the cake of your hearts desire! This is Wren, focused on the carrot cake with real cream cheese frosting...mmm!

Time on the boat

There were so many things to do on the boat! Eating being a "big" one, but we also participated in a game called "what's in the bag" where you could submit your guesses to win the mystery prize. We never won, but it was fun, nonetheless. We also watched three movies (Bourne Legacy, Dark Knight Rises, and Sherlock Holmes 2) in the on-ship theater. We went to lectures, hot tubbed, learned napkin-folding, read, played chess,

played trivia and gambled, took a waltz class, lounged in the sun, used the gym, saw more shows, juggled,

watched (twice) the show by jugglers, Paul and Alexa of Airborne,

and was even in a show!

Wren and I (now "international" performers!) performed our Yippe Ky-yay duo rope routine, and below is a picture of  me doing the Chair Dance in the show!

What a great time. Travel by cruise is way more fun that I imagined... and speaking of fun, Wren was even practical joked from across the world with this little number from his mom. Fake poop... you so crazy!

The Pie Hole

So one fun thing that has happened recently is La Fiamma owner, Ken Bothman, asked the Circus Guild if they'd like to perform 3 nights a week in front of their new attraction, The Pie Hole. It's a late night pizza-by-the-slice business for the Thurs-Sat downtown crowd  looking for "after-hours" delicious eats. Wren and I decided to be one of the evenings' entertainers.

Wren (who also has a blog post about this) was a fire-juggling slice of pizza! "Get you're wood-fire, flaming hot pizza!" we would bellow.

I was in the warmest costume I could find... it was such a chilly night!

Wren was great at getting people involved. We taught juggling and rope tricks to the late-night revelers who were passing by... this guy with the anchor shirt and his lady friend hung out for almost an hour with us! Almost more impressive than their tenacity for learning, was their resilience or even disregard for the freezing temperature! All in all it was a great experience.
