I love this festival. I sure hope they have me again for my 8th annual time. =)

Clown class with Aitor

I was fortunate enough to take a two week Master Clown class with Aitor Basauri. He is a very kind, hilarious, smart, creative teacher. I would absolutely take a class with him again.
Here are some of his quotes from my notes:
When playing comedy, there are two things going on simultaneously - the scene, and the game.
The audience likes us when we are ourselves.
If you don't try to be very good, you will be very bad.
When you feel vulnerable, look at the audience.
If you make fun of yourself, there is no room for the audience to laugh at you.
Your commitment is what we laugh at.
To be repeatable for a laugh, play with the details.
Clowns don't stop trying.
A clown is very good or very bad, in the middle is not a clown.
Our pledge: I am going to give you everything I have.
In group scenes, make a big situation so you can destroy it together.
Come out with pleasure.
Clowns create material that is very bad. And it is so funny.
Play like you mean it. Like you are going to do/be the best.
Commit BIG to each idea.
We might not learn anything, but we experience.
Notice if the audience is liking the game, play that.
Take what you are creating to the end.
If you aren't going to be funny, be beautiful.
Do the exercise/performance to the best of your abilities.
As a clown, it's important to always have audience to create material.
When you enter, do something to make audience think, 'Oh good, we are in good hands'.
Always have an end prepared.
Don't be afraid of making decisions.
Rule of thumb: explain less, do more.
We need to see the stupid idea of the clown in the beginning.
Clowns must write their material.
The game Mister Hit, with Zee, Lara, Christine, Roberta, Tom, Kylee, Guest.
The second week class
Lara, Della, Zee, Kimberly, Tom, Aitor, Brandon, Molly, Kylee, Christine, Roberta.

Hanging out with Melissa

It's been 10 years since we've seen each other!
Mel and I met in high school. She got me into soccer. She's a lawyer now and just got back from living in Thailand for a few years. She hasn't changed a bit!

The Pink Door

I performed at the Pink Door tonight (11:00pm show in Seattle) for the first time. The Chair Dance in the first half, the Piggy Fan Dance in the second. The night included Armitage Shanks as the MC, Maggie McMuffin as our stage manager, and starred Persephone Illyri, Paris Original, Nicholi, and me. It was super fun and felt like a great success!

Night Out event in Seattle

Wren and I got a gig in Seattle recently ("Night Out" an event to build community to help prevent crime in the city) through our good friend Sam Williams. The event took place in the center of three places: a church, a retirement home, and a men's half-way house-type place. Wren and I had a great time, and from the organizers feedback, everyone else did too. Here's some pictures from the event... we did a bit of teaching as well as roaming and performing. This guy was super into the ropes, it was awesome!
 Wren entertaining the food line.
 Us performing our juggling routine.
 Teachin' the kiddos diabolo.
 They're totally doin' it.
Wren's totally doin' it too, nice job buddy.
No bigs, just Wren juggling SEVEN balls!
 Me playing with my hat.
 And this guy again...
 and again!
Super fun event. Thanks Sam Williams!

Moisture Festival again!

I love the Moisture Festival! I think this is my 5th year performing the Chair Dance. I'm so excited tehy keep having me back! This year was especially awesome, because my parents, Wren, and cousin Squeek came! That's my moms nose in the lower left of the picture. That's the closest we got to getting a family photo. But we did have dinner together, and they all said they had a great time.
So, on with the show... here I am on the poster!

Ooh, and there I am on the set list!
Along with...
Pat McGuire
Who toured around the world in over 2000 shows in Cirque du Soleil's Mystère, and Quidam.
Who I didn't know was this performer from way back that I saw in a video entertaining Ronald Regan!
Who are my friends through NOTC, and whose wedding Wren and I just attended this summer!
Hacki Ganda
Camille Swift
And, not only were all these people and I in this show, but so were the beautiful PJ and Sara Sparrow!

For the late show, Sara suggested I pick Godfrey Daniels as my "Man".
I did. It was great. More photos from the Chair Dance at the link below.

Barnum and Bailey Circus

Wren and I went to see the Barnum and Bailey Circus with our friends Rod and Saxtor.
I enjoyed the tiny dogs on tiny horses a lot. There was a musical chairs with volunteer kids that was the funniest thing. The finale with motorcycles in a circular cage with two ladies in a two -high was probably the most thrilling.
When we rolled up, there were protesters outside claiming animal cruelty. It was hard to fully enjoy myself thinking they may be right. I wikied B&B, but it's so hard to know the full truth. I sure hope that these animals are being treated well.
